TAILORING TALES - womenswear: dresses, coats & skirts

7 pieces, all existing purchases in my clients wardrobes, brought back to life through clever alterations.

  • A pleated silk which needed to be shortened but had to be conscious of the inverted pleated details so the proportions weren’t placed incorrectly.

  • A summer dress with a full length pleated skirt, needed to be shorted (neatly!).

  • A full length silk chiffon maxi dress with complicated handkerchief hem, which needed to be hemmed! (harder than you think!)

  • A couple of work dresses which fitted perfectly ‘on top’, but were too loose through the skirt.

  • A silk shirt which felt confused, neither obviously smart or casual. With some clever alteration we corrected the design so it felt more complimentary in a more causal setting, ideal to be worn with jeans.

  • A classic formal piece of outerwear from Maxmara. The sleeves were too long and so collapsed through the arm giving the illusion that the whole coat was too big.

  • A really useful cotton jacket with sleeves that were too long. A not-so-simple alteration when you have to consider the scales of design.
